Brackets didn't last very long? Did anyone end up going?

I went once. It sucked. Overpriced, generic, sterile atmosphere. Anytime you see D.C. prices in a Dallas bar, that's not a good sign.

Just a fun example, Chuy's has opened up here in the greater D.C. area. I ate at the Knox Avenue Chuy's on a Friday for lunch, and the next Thursday, I wound up eating at the Springfield, Virginia Chuy's. Same exact menu, one week apart, across the board 33% higher prices.

D.C. Mexican and Tex-Mex in D.C. in general is appalling enough to make the opening of Chuy's a celebratory event.

Interesting factoid. Less Tex-Mex competition and seeing what the market can bear?

D.C. proper, and especially the surrounding areas, suffer from a dearth of even respectable quality Mexican and Tex-Mex food. It's populated by chains like Don Pablo's (atrocious) Chi-Chi's (out of business after killing people) and Chevy's (mediocre on its best day). Chuy's apparently has been aggressively expanding, because they've put one in Richmond, Fairfax, and Springfield, Virginia, and were eyeing suburban Maryland, somewhere like Bethesda, Chevy Chase, or Montgomery County.

Apparently business is good. There's also a glut of people with disposable income in the area that like to go out to eat, and many of the 'burbs don't offer quality food of that kind.

And they do offer a decent margarita at a reasonable price. For example, there's a Mexican joint with a few area locations called Guapos. Decent food, not a bad place to grab a Pacifico. But I found out the hard way that their standard "beer-a-rita" runs 18$. That's obscene. Chuy's here does it for $10. I can get behind that.
