Seriously, before this thread degenerates any further, get your nephew's balls autographed, er... well, whatever mrydel said.
And Thad, you can PM me that link....
Heh.
I have no link. I couldn't even to begin to guess where it was even hosted back in the day... that was late 1997. Prolly in a video format no longer supported by today's players.

Isn't Peruna a gelding?
from www.wikipedia.org
Peruna is also noted for having spent the night in every one of SMU's Panhellenic Sorority houses, and traveling to New York with the SMU band, where he was given his own cab, his own elevator, and his own hotel suite. (What a stud!)

Excellent work, but only one question about the Wiki: If killing the Fordham Ram (in the '30's) resulted in the new NCAA rule, how did Peruna end up on the same field with Bevo, Tech horse, etc. Did they reverse the rule at some point?

Gracias. That's just hearsay (I guess). Probably isn't true, especially the first time I heard Peruna killed another animal it was Bill the Goat in 1994, then the Army mule, then the truth, so it should probably be taken out cause it just isn't true.

We've had male and female Perunas and there may be a gelding in there. I personally witnessed the TCU love gift and him running through the Rice band and biting female cheerleaders on the rear. The Fordham event was apparently noted in the NY papers since SMU also beat Fordham that day. That was when Fordham had a front line known as the seven blocks of granite including one fellow named Vince Lombardi. I didn't know there was an NCAA rule against bringing mascots close to other mascots. Another Peruna legend was that Baylor tried to bring their bear close to Peruna apparently at one point and Peruna reared up and scared the bear so badly that it broke from its handlers and ran into the stands delaying the game. After that (and after the abortive bearnapping attempt by some Aggies where the Bear apparently mauled them and their car) Baylor got rid of the bear and went with more manageable bear cubs. Having live animal mascots does create some fun unpredictability to the festivities and I hope SMU always has a live pony as long as we have sports teams.
