DiamondM wrote:Incidentially, the 76 year-old Pigskin Revue isn't just a "band" tradition -- it used to involve lots of campus groups and performers, and was the traditional introduction of all of the homecoming candidates to homecoming attendees.

That's really the one I was thinking of and giving you a hard time about, but given your recitation of its history, I will reconsider. Also, the diamond m is not just a band formation (and you are right, the subject of a classic prank which makes it venerable in its own right) but used to be part of SMU's logo back when.

Fact is, SMU just doesn't have many "traditions" to speak of. The ones you list are prestigious enough on their own merit, but hardly the subject of mass school participation. The 'vard, however, should it stand the test of time, is one which may become a legitimate tradition.

I agree with all of Diamond M's suggestions. Right on the money. And I'm glad the SMU folks were responsive. It's amazing how few people at SMU have any knowledge of the school. Probably because we have so few alums working there - the current students can't be expected to know much about SMU's history and traditions.

I'm shocked, though, that Pigskin Revue has downsized to mostly a band function. Is this SMU's fault, or a product of our incredibly apathetic, too-hip-to-be-bothered student body? Surely the sororities are still into doing things like this.

Looks like SMU has done a much-needed job emphasizing Mustang Corral, but its next priority should be to restore Pigksin Revue to an all-school affair. Things like Pigskin Revue add to the quality of campus life and counter the image that all SMU kids do is drink and get high.

We're not in danger of getting a Baylor-like, goody-two-shoes rep anytime soon, but geez, how bad is it that we can't even keep the traditional campus-wide talent show going?

Do the fraternities & soroities still do the Sing Song competition? If so, that may be a reason why student organizations are not participating in Pigskin Revue.

The greeks do still 'Sing Song' and that's the major reason why they don't participate in Pigskin Revue any longer. Over the last few years, many students from Meadows have participated, however, mostly dance majors.
