Most top frat individuals (not the SMU nerd frats) at SMU major in communication arts. Everyone in communications arts has high grades. Not difficult to learn how to do a power point presentation. There are exceptions of course. Pre med frat guys are very rare though. The more difficult the major the more unlikely someone is to be in a fraternity. At least that was the way it was when I was at SMU. Many say the communications arts major at SMU was created because the more elite fraternities at SMU were full of wealthy party types who could not even gain admission to the Business school (let alone study engineering or science). Always exceptions to the rule but i suspect SMU has not changed in this regard. Rice is in a different league than SMU. Its an elite academic school that the vast majority of admits to SMU could never get into. Not being anti SMU. Just the reality. Nuff said.

A couple of billion to the endowment would handle that problem, challenge, or whatever. Otherwise - it's a slow road to hold to the level of Rice.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Uh, I don't want SMU to become Rice. I still want there to be hot chicks everywhere when I go back for my 30th reunion

Well the communications arts stuff isn't true at all... I've never even heard of that major. Over half my pledge class were Finance or Accounting majors, 2 guys were Engineer majors, and we had a pre-med guy that did his MSF after graduating and is now in med-school..but sure, you can't be smart and be in a good fraternity.

Why has Lori White not been fired yet?
The only thing you need to know about her is that she drives a BMW with a license plate that says "DR LORI"

If she indeed has that vanity plate she needs to be escorted off campus ASAP.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Chnash318, which frat were you in? Sounds like one I'd want my son to join. A friend of mine was FIJI at UT and he claims that was the best. What else would he say? One of Dan Branch's sons was president of that frat so there's that. SAE was the "coolest" frat at Houston until, like at SMU, it was kicked off campus. Maybe that's a recurring theme with SAE. TKE had a lot of honors students in it and current doctors. I'd be surprised if SMU's Kappa Alpha Order (?) had a lot of engineering or pre-med students. Just my observation. Cool, "Texas" kids though. I liked this string. Remember that 75% of males don't go Greek and the SATs are now 1300+. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sou ... grads.html

Fiji's is the best at UT - but that is off topic.
Pretty sure SAE has not ever been kicked off campus at SMU. I think about half of SMU males go Greek - and that is fine. Most of them are interested in doing well in school so there is the normal amount of animal house and a normal amount of studying your butt off. Like just about anywhere.
Average student quality waaaaaay up in the last ten years.

Believe it's 35% of SMU men and 45% of women that go Greek these days. Regarding donors, I'm not sure if donor participation rates are higher among Greek alumni than those who weren't Greek, but I will say that the school's most significant donors were Greek. That's simply a matter of record. I wonder if younger Greek alums are actually less likely to give to SMU than their non-Greek counterparts because of the actions of Lori White. And yes, she does have that license plate. She nearly hit me coming out of the garage after a hoops game last year.

I was a SAE that graduated just a few years ago. SAE has never been kicked off campus to my knowledge. KA was kicked off a few years ago for stupid reasons but are back on now. SAE, Fiji, and Pike were the best when I graduated but it changes every few years (ie Pike took Phi Delt's place in the past few years) so just tell your son to go where he feels comfortable not where he thinks is best. And the biggest donors are definitely Greek alums. Heck, SAE alone has 3 alums on the BODs alone if I remember correctly...

I find it more and more difficult to get fired up about 18-22 year old girls, white dress and boots or no.
