Not a cent from me until Turner is in his SMU grave.

Did those [deleted] students pay the nickels and dimes themselves? Like what? I believe metropolitan research universities have lower donation levels than more rural, suburban schools, so the 25% figure is very solid.

That's interesting since young alumni give at a higher rate than regular alums. All that nickel and dime stuff is just a b.s. excuse for being [deleted] whiners. Our school is on a huge roll in every way that matters and deserves your support. It's a big part of rankings so if you haven't then just please do so.

And just as a warning if you think you will no longer get telemarketing calls as you age, please continue to dream that dream.

Very sad to read some of these posts. I hope those of you who choose not to give have open minds. My Manifesto:

Not even my best friends say and do things as I would like or even expect them to do. I choose to have friends.

As someone who is currently going through mid-life, I am more reflective on everything. My degree helped me get internships and job opportunities early in my career and now is a source of pride and camaraderie. Today, as I look back, I treasure all of my SMU memories. SMU is a place I can go and visit, but it represents much more. It is a place where my memories live. When I walk through Campus, I see things as they used to be. My favorite classroom in Dallas Hall where I studied alone at night, the Stacks where I used to recline in my chair with my feet propped up on the desk, the spot where I finally spoke to the girl I always wanted to date, etc. These are the things I value to this day and evermore I suspect.

For me, SMU is a place where I was wanted. A place where I met friends who had similar interests to my own (academics, athletics and social life). If sins have been committed, I hope they are forgiven and kept in perspective. I hope you are able to focus on the real value SMU has given to you: likely your occupation and most dear friends and memories. If you don't have similar memories, then yes I agree, you were cheated. SMU is us. This is the SMU family. I hope you will love us, warts and all.

Well put
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Exactly. They more skin in the game than anyone.

Higher % = Higher Ranking = Higher Salary

Really hoping the 25% is met. Daughter is now an alum as of 2 weeks ago. She honestly has nothing but extremely positive things to say about her SMU experience. As parents, my husband and I couldn't have been happier as well. For those who haven't given, please reconsider - there is a lot to be thankful for and the 25% really does help everyone.

^Congrats! The school has changed so much since I left but it is so impressive. Glad to hear the overall experience matches the presentation. I totally understand some of the posts on this thread but hope me hit the mark and am thankful for those who could give

That is great news. I agree it's an excuse and happens everywhere. Maybe my friends just suck haha. Never going to get them all. I don't understand the not giving back mentality, I had a great experience and even if I didn't I would probably still give some back. I had some complaints just like everyone but I figure once you get a degree from SMU you are now associated for life so I want it to be as successful as possible.

Meh, get used to it. When you are an adult, people will always have their hand out wanting your money. Just have to grow a pair and give to what's important to you.

If you think SMU is alone in the nickle and diming of its graduates then you are clueless. SMU offers some of the best post graduate internship and placement opportunities through the Career Center in the country. If you can't fork over 10 bucks so that your alma mater continues to rise in these rankings then fine. Be that way. But I promise you our friends in Waco, Fort Worth, College Station, and Austin are asking the same things of their graduates.
Back off Warchild seriously.
