Re: Burger wars, re-visitedOK, here are my final rankings:
1. Snookies 2. Up Town Bar & Grill 3. Rose's 4. Campisi's 5. Tipperary Inn 6. Joe Willy's 7. Earl's 8. 1st & 10 9. Two Rows 10. Snuffer's 11. Adair’s Saloon 12. Cheese Factory 13. Fuddrucker's 14. Re: Burger wars, re-visitedThanks to all our judges for participating, and with the votes now tallied, here are the combined Regular Season standings for the Burger War, using my own weighted average system, as follows:
A susprisingly strong first place- Snookies. Snooks had 2 #1 votes, and was in everybodies top-5. Followed closely by- Uptown Bar and Grill. A single #1 vote, but 2 or 3 on everyone elses list. Tied for third-Roses and the Tipperary Inn. 5th place and possibly our last contestant, Joe Willys. If we want to extend to 6, Fuddruckers and First and Ten are tied at that spot. Campisis was next, followed by Earls. Snuffers, Two Rows, Jakes, and the Cheesecake Factory all tied, and Adairs brings up the tail. Chips, which did not place above 14th on anyones list but whatasteve, finished dead last in the composite rankings. So, do we start at the top or the bottom? Perhaps a Sudden Belch playoff to pick between Fuddruckers and 1st and 10? Let me know what we are going to do, and when. I might have trouble doing anything on Thursday night, and I think whatasteve is going to be occupied on Wednesday. [This message has been edited by PonyPride (edited 10-22-2002).]
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedGuys,
Please add JG's to the list. It is on Greenville just North of Forest. It is definitely top three or four. Thanks! Viva Los Gordos!
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedNot so fast my friends!
I've heard a lot of good things about JG's, guys. Take Iceman's advice and give it a shot.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedWe reconnoitered JGs, but it didn’t make the cut. Realistically, it would probably place somewhere on the bottom third of the list, but since by that time we’d tested so many outstanding candidates, we decided to pass. There are some other outstanding burger joints (e.g. Paradise Burger, etc.) in town, but we wanted to keep our selections fairly close to SMU and we felt we needed to wrap the Wars up at some point.

Re: Burger wars, re-visitedFirst and 10 has to be in your Burger Finals.
But I drove by it when I was in town this weekend, and there's some huge grocery store there now. Is it gone altogether, or has it moved? First and 10 always was my favorite. There's nothing like it down here. Their burgers are perfect!
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedI say we dip down to include Fud's and 1st & 10. 1) If we don't include 1st & 10, well, that'd be downright un-Mustanglike. 2) We need to take on those 1-lb. Fudburgers.

Re: Burger wars, re-visitedOf COURSE skipping First & 10 would be un-Mustanglike and really, un-American.
The 1-pounder? I'll give it a shot. Let me starve for a few days beforehand to make room.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedForget Fuddruckers...it's a chain and it's not ranked all that high anyway. If you want to eat there...then go for it, but it doesn't rank high enough to be in the burg-off. As for 1st & 10...well they could soak it in gasoline and Whatasteve would insist it is the greatest. I at least was honest enough to let my pre-war favorite sink down the list as was appropriate...give it a rest Whatasteve.

Re: Burger wars, re-visitedActually, Fuddruckers did fairly well, making the top-5 on 2 lists, but the RAW burger they served me killed their chances, because I had it last on mine.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedIf I was as biased as you suggest, PK, then how come I don't have First & 10 listed first? I love the place, but Uptown is better.
Fuddrucker's has to make the finals, if for no other reason than to see Mrs. PK, The Lovely Mrs. Punch and Whatachick try to wrap themselves around the 1-pound burgers! You can't tell me you wouldn't want to see that.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedAlternatively, perhaps Punch, Whatasteve and I could do a quick 2 burger elimination round, visiting 1st and 10 and Fuddruckers over the weekend, and between them choosing 1 for the entire crowd to visit. With 3 judges present we have a quorum, and the odd number ensures that there cant be a tie. best 2 out of 3.

Re: Burger wars, re-visitedI'm not trying to be ornery, although I may fit the definition, but I really don't see the need to have more than 5 places to go to for the burg-off. If we go to seven places, that's almost 50%of the total we went to in the first place. All of these spots have had their day in the sun and now is the time to do a final run for the top. I tried to look at a method of determining that similar to what PX did, but since PX never posted a final ranking for all 15 places I was unable to do that. The results may have been the same as what he came up with...I can't tell.
Almost all of thse places made good burgers, but we are trying to come up with a numero uno. I will in the end do what ever the majority decides...so let me know. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards.
