couch 'em wrote:The issue, at least with me, isn't politicians using religion as the basis of their political beliefs, but pandering to those beliefs and ignoring other principles. The republican party has become a parody of trumpeting gay marriage and abortion and completely giving up on concepts like small government, fiscal responsibility, states rights, individual rights, and NOT being world police.

The left has forced the divisive issues by installing activist judges who read into the constitution ideas that no elected official would have dared touch. What you see with the "religious right" is in large part an understandable reaction to that.

But I agree that the concepts of fiscal responsibility and limited government have unfortunately taken a bit of the back seat. It's my biggest disappointment with the Bush administration. Well, that and torture -- something that is the antithesis of what this country is all about.

That is low. It isn't fair to put a pic of the Harvard homecoming queen up on the board.

From the media coverage so far this election year, I thought he had already been elected.

A sufficient amount of sleep evidently. :)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
