Actually, I think that everyone is over-reacting. Yes, they were acting like ... clowns No, it was not a federal offense. OMG - they are throwing hamburger meat. Call the FBI and ATF!! BTW - unless it was a Sigma Chi event, I don't see why the fraternity (or IFC) should be involved. When Brother [Nitwit} got drunk and decided to go skinny dipping in his off campus apartment's swimming pool, he got to deal with the Dallas PD - not SMU, the IFC, or our house.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

Can we not focus on the important thing here?
How in the hell can a guy in Texas not know how to operate a grill?

To paraphrase Ahnold, we have a lot of girlymen at SMU. Most of whom came here from a certain western state or 2.

Ding ding ding you got it right. Plus not all the facts are being presented correctly here. Very easy to spin this as a "fraternities are the scourge to society story".

Except no one called the FBI or ATF, or even the police it sounds like.

if those kids want to act that way on campus, more power to them. Since they live in a neighborhood, a certain amount of maturity is warranted. We have a house on our block that is rented by 4-5 UC students. They are smart enough to know that they are part of a neighborhood and they handle themselves pretty well. In fact, they were out early this morning shoveling snow for several of our older residents on the block. They are pretty normal college students but they have figured out a few things about life that will help them.

I was in a fraternity and we didn't treat our neighbors like that. Those guys are just ...
I was and we didn't either. We had a parents weekend party at the house one year and went door to door in the neighborhood making sure that all of our neighbors knew there was going to be a live band outside until midnight. Of course, the a-holes still called the cops. Some people just can't tolerate others enjoying themselves.
You say there was a live band playing outside in the yard UNTIL MIDNIGHT and some (expletive) called the cops? What nerve some neighbors have!

Are you a college student, too? You'll learn that some folk still have to go to work on Saturday morning, and a "live band" playing in the yard til after midnight doesn't help with that.

Or what if you want to get up early to workout, hunt/fish, or maybe you have kids?

I think that's pretty normal, actually. The kids in this story are fortunately the exception.
