Best Texas BBQ in DFW area.

Had Sammy's last week for the first time in quite a while. Always thought Sammy's was really good...Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but it was not very good at all.

OFF THE BONE. East on Lamar leaving Downtown. Without a doubt the BEST RIBS in town.

Texas Land & Cattle has ribs. anyone tried them? And they have chili.

That restaurant has the WORST service and LOUSY food. I've been there 3 times and each visit was PATHETIC! AVOID TX LAND & CATTLE AT ALL COSTS!

For years I have been eating at a place on Belknap street just west of Beach street in Fort Worth after the SMU/TCU games. It is called Sammy's, and they are open pretty late. First of all, FANTASTIC ice cold beer served in schooners. The brisket and ribs are served in a sweet/tangy/watery sauce that is like nothing I have had before. The sides are fantastic also. The french fries are huge hand cut things like my mom used to make in her home kitchen, and the onion rings are cooked in an eggy batter that is delicious. I hardly ever see anything about this place in the media, but it has been open since the 1940s. I have been going there for 30 years now, and it has never disappointed.

Rudy's? Seriously????? I guess it may be the best in DFW but that isn't saying much. Rudy's is ok for a chain but I never knew what REALLY good BBQ was until I moved to the hill country. If you ever find yourselves in central Texas, do yourself a favor and make a side trip to Lockhart and visit Blacks, Smitty's, or Krewz's BBQ. The Saltlick in Driftwood, or City Market in Luling. None will disappoint. WARNING: eating at any of them will ruin you forever on any of the DFW joints.

overcusser: No doubt the BEST BBQ in the STATE is in the locations you mentioned. However, the thread is titled BEST IN DFW.

By the way, if you're in Kerrville I recommend Bill's BBQ on Hwy. 39 between Kerrville & Ingram (Guadalupe River side of the highway). Some of the best I've ever had in that region.

Central Texas has some great Q for sure.

Sounds like there could be some good Q up here also.

If your in Baltimore and want actual Beef barbeque RUB BBQ on Light Street is run by a few former Texas BBQers, its pretty tasty.

My two faves:

Baby Back Shaq, 1800 S Akard, just south of downtown/near Lee Harvey's.

Smokey Johns on Mockingbird (west of Harry Hines). (house made garlic sausage is my spicy, guilty pleasure). And some real soul food options as well (smothered pork chop, collared greens, corn bread, etc., yum yum).

Better yet, hit Boog Powell's BBQ stand behind the right field wall at Camden Yards.

Good place, I live about 15 minutes away from it. Had no idea it was the original location until a few months after I first ate there.
