With his talk about getting the students to come back, I'm sure he would be happy to talk to the DC at least a couple times a week. Someone at the paper has to show some sign of interest though. Maybe if Doh showed up at their office in a NASCAR driver's jacket they'd interview him (until they figured out he wasn't actually a driver of course).

Ok, so I agree that NASCAR isn't a sport and I can understand why all of you question its placement in the Daily Campus. BUT, would you be saying the same thing if there were an article on the Mavs? The Cowboys? Had he written a story on either of these teams, I doubt this thread would still be around... In fact, it this has been in the past and doesn't generate the uproar that these 3 NASCAR articles have. My two cents.

Yes, unless it was an article about a former SMU player playing for one of those teams. If the students want to read about the Mavs or the Cowboys, they can get a DMN.

well they can buy a DMN from somewhere off campus...or just pick up something free that is in pretty much every building...

I can't speak for anyone else, but yes, I'd have the same complaints. Maybe it's a purist's view, but to me the only stories about the Cowboys or Mavs in the DC should be about Kincade making the Dallas roster or Quinton Ross helping to beat Dallas last night -- written from the SMU angle, not "here's a Mavs lickfest, and by the way, an SMU guy also was in the building."
Just MY two cents.

And I'm sure the DC would appreciate your funding allowing a member of their staff to fly to LA and get quotes from the great Q himself for that story...your 450 dollars would be more appreciated than those 2 cents

They make these things called phones now which allow people to talk without actually being in the same room.

Communism does not work boys. Let the press choose what it writes about. Express your displeasure by cancelling your subscription to the DC.

Or just check the stories on espn.com, dallasnews.com, wfaa.com, etc. I think most students have free access to computers on campus and no offense, but I'd rather read about the Mavs, Cowboys, etc. from a professional that actually can get the good story. If there's an SMU angle on the story that a pro can't or won't get, go for it.
As I've said before, I understand using stories that relate to DFW sports and happenings to fill space. However, in those cases, use the AP story. Maybe that would save you time for studying.

I've given the DC a lot of crap for some of the stories they've run, and thought it would be only fair to come on and laud the staff for its issue today (Wednesday, Nov. 29). Austin Kilgore has a thorough sit-down with Coach Bennett, and Jordan Hoffeditz has a pair of good stories: a season recap and a breakdown of the reasons SMU isn't "going bowling."
Keep up the good work, guys!
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses." ... "Hit it."
