All of the slummy apartments on Meadow Road, east of Central Expressway over to Greenville Ave. have also been demolished for a huge 'Mockingbird Station'-type project, like Big Hoss says.

I work right in that area too (walnut hill & greenville), and it was nice to see the apts on Meadow gone. Not sure what they are going to build there.

I do know over where Willow Creek was there will be at least one nice apt complex going in, not sure about shopping associated with it.

Dallas Morning News is getting into the Burger Wars game. As part of their Best in DFW series, they are now addressing the best burgers in DFW. Their restaurant critics picks are (in no particular order):

Angry Dog, Deep Ellum
Fred's Cafe, Ft. Worth
Kelley's Eastside, Plano
Love Shack, Ft. Worth
Perry's, Dallas
Snuffer's
Twisted Root, Deep Ellum
Wingfield's, South Dallas

Are these the apartments formerly known as Arson on the Lake because they caught fire several times a year? I lived there for one semester and they burned twice.

Too bad you didn't know Pete Fleps. He would have saved you and your home, and your little dog, if you had one.

Wasn't my apt either time, though once was the building next to mine. The other was some frat brothers of hubby. Their poor little dog perished in the fire.

Had Twisted Root today w/ the wife and 5 year old. Burger was thick-not too greasy, not too dry, bun was good; condiments include their own homemade ancho chipotle ketchup & BBQ sauce. Fries were okay...a cross between Jack in the Box and Arby's. For those of you who are fans of a good green chile burger, I wouldn't recommend the one from here though...not much green chile flavor. Son's cheddar burger looked pretty good though.

Atmosphere reminded my wife (Baton Rouge native/longtime NOLA resident) of something "in the quarter" (i.e. old & dirty..if not quaint). Service was cute..intended, feigned irreverance in a [deleted]'s last resort kind of way.

Cinnamon walnut root beer was good.

Wife rated Snuffer's ahead of Twisted Root, saying she prefers the atmosphere of Snuffer's (although in fairness she's only been to the Greenville Snuffer's with which we're all familiar once...she's referencing the one in Plano).

I'd rate the burger itself ahead of Snuffer's. Also ahead of Jake's and Fuddruckers. The drive down there sucked; also reminded me how most times in my life I've been to Deep Ellum, it was dark outside and I don't have too clear of a memory.
