Burger wars, re-visitedModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Burger wars, re-visitedJake's opened and expanded Sports Bar concept in Lake Highlands on the NW corner of NW Highway and Plano Rd. Lots of screens. A couple of pinball machines. Old-school Jake's drive-in burger augmented with a second beef patty. Fried shrooms good. Sweet potato fried good. Within a reasonable flight path from campus and a gem for PonyFans living on the E side of White Rock.

Re: Burger wars, re-visitedNice! Gonna have to check that out. Guess that’s where they put their resources after the Henderson Jakes closed.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedTry the burger at Thirsty Lion (75 and Walnut Hill). You might want to wipe down the bun with a napkin, as it is served a little slimy, but the burger itself is really good, with a good smoke/charcoal taste (even though I don't think it's grilled).
The fries are average, at best, but I'd do the burger again in a heartbeat.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedMade a well-deserved trip to Hillcrest Burger House last week. Even with all the foo-foo burgers, it's still the best.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedI'll never understand why some people like that place so much. It's OK, but only OK. Just never did anything for me.
Re: Burger wars, re-visitedWent looking for Grub the other day (Greenville Ave.), only to find out it had been replaced a year ago by something called Brass Tap. I was hungry, so I stopped in.
Don't waste your time. The burger is not inedible, but it lacks any flavor at all, and you'll need a towel to get the grease off your hands and arms. Fries were mediocre (seriously overcooked), too.
