OK he's been around for awhile but anyone notice that SMU alumnus Jack Ingrams' "Whereever You Are" is climbing up the Country Western Charts.

Jack and I attended Camp Longhorn way back when we had hair and a flat belly.

Hey, SMU Mktg. Dept: Get Jack to play a concert AFTER one of the home games next season to get a larger crowd! BUT...you don't attend the concert unless you come to the game. No one's allowed into the stadium after the game.

Great idea, and they would have never thought of it.

He's a good dude. He used to strum at Adair's and Green Elephant. Now he's big time - Billy Bob's and getting noticed.
Not a bad idea - I am sure he would probably do it if they asked....

yeah, for his normal appearence fee. probably somewhere in the $10,000-$15,000 range. there's a lot of support that goes into putting on a show from management to crew. at our attendance rates, that would be a dollar out of every ticket.
Great idea in "theory", but Jack is not in the charity business, and has bill to pay, more mouths to feed than just his own. and he certainly doesn't OWE it to SMU.

1. Appearance fee is probably less than you think.
2. Pretty sure SMU tried this before with Pat Green, didn't they?

How obsured is this idea. Have a C/W star? play after the game is really going to increase the crowd size? What are you folks smokin. Do you think for one minute this will attract the students? Do you think this will increase the crowd for the game? And then require game attendance to see the concert? OK so I show up with 5 mins left in the 4th, so I can see a free concert, that is if I am a C/W fan, which I am not. What if I want to leave before the concert? Are you going to block the exists?
This is probably the stupidist idea I have seen on this board in a long, long time.

I say let Hacksaw Jim Duggin have a postgame match with some other geezing WWE wrestler. Now that will pack them in.

Diamond,
I am hoping your comments were sarcastic. I think that would be a great idea depending on what the costs would be. You will get your normal basketball crowd and you will draw in some amount of fans (how many remains to be seen) who are there to see the concert. It would obviously be better than our normal attendance. If it could be done on the cheap, it is an idea that is worth looking into at very least.
FYI students will come. Regardless of whether people want to admit it or not: SMU's student body has a large faction of conservative white kids from the south. These kids like country music. When CCR played at "Mane Event" there was a rather strong turnout. Unfortunately in other years "Mane Event" has been a bust bc of guests such as Coolio, 112, Juvenille and I hear this year they passed over Jimmy Buffett in favor of another rapper whose apperance fee is greater (forgot who it is this year).
Your dismisal of an innovative idea without even considering it is stupid and short sighted.

I'd rather see Kenny Mayne (ESPN) come down to Dallas and do a Mayne Event like he does on their NFL pregame show.
