If you want Kinky on the ballot, DON'T vote this Tuesday

If you want to be eligible to sign the petition to get Kinky Friedman on the ballot for Governor this fall, do NOT vote in the primary on March 8.

In order to be eligible to sign the petition, you have to be a registered voter, but not have voted in the primary (this also holds true if you want to see Strayhorn on the ballot, since she is trying to run as an independent).

Can you sign petitions for both Strayhorn and Kinky or just one of them? I would honestly like to see a four-way come November.

I believe the law states that you can only sign one petition - you can't sign petitions for both candidates.

I actually think that is not the case; you can sign more than one petition in a given race, I believe.

Rules for Running for Texas Governor as an Independent:

> Candidates must gather voter signatures after the March 7 Republican and Democratic party primary elections. If there's a runoff in at least one party's gubernatorial race, candidates must wait until after the April 11 runoff to circulate petitions.

> Signatures must be from voters who did not participate in GOP or Democratic primary.

> Voters may sign only one independent gubernatorial candidate's petition. If a signature appears on more than one candidate petition, only the first signature provided will count.

Source: Texas Secretary of State's Office.

Basically, you've got to jump through all kinds of hoops to get on the ballot as an Independent.

We have a loop hole. Blog is correct. You can sign as many as you want. Only the first one counts. :lol:

how do they know which one you signed first? Is it dated? And, if it's dated, what if you sign them on the same day?

Don't make this any more complcated than it already is. Just pick one and sign the petition. If you're a Strayhorn supporter or Kinky supporter, sign that particular petition and be done with it. Geez, it isn't all that complicated.

Carole Keeton Strayhorn Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. She use to be a Democrat then became a Republican. Now she has licked her finger and stuck it up in the air to see which way the political wind is blowing and has decided to run as an independent.

Basically Strayhorn didn't want to go up against Gov. Perry in the Republican primary since that would be an uphill battle, at best. She thought the path of least resistance would be to get on the ballot as an independent.

Remember: DON'T vote today if you want to be eligble to sign Kinky's petition.

I assume you remember that Perry was a Democrat at one time as well.
