Committee Formed to Search for SMU ProvostSouthern Methodist University President Gerald Turner has named a 15-member search committee to replace former provost Robert Blocker, who recently resigned to return to Yale University. Al Niemi, dean of the Cox School of Business, will chair the committee that will identify candidates to become the university's next provost and vice president for academic affairs. The group, which is expected to have its first meeting in August, intends to invite finalists to campus in February or March. The university plans to hire a national consulting firm to help with the search. Former associate provost Thomas Tunks is acting provost.
