I liked Jim. Yes he rode some of the frats hard, but sometimes that needed to be done when kids got injured during pledge week, or a party got out of control, that sort of thing. That was his job after all. But he usually tried the nice approach before he brought the hammer down.

As a FIJI, I can only thank the lucky stars for Jim. He kept us from getting kicked off campus for many years. Not to mention his son.. who was President of FIJI.. now making movies out in La La Land.

My wife just shouted "Hallelujah!" She says Caswell is the one who has stopped Fall Rush for sororities and fraternities all these years. Almost every other campus in the country has Fall Rush for the Greeks...except SMU.

There is a Fall rush.. for upperclassmen. And I think it was a great move for SMU because it let's freshmen concentrate on their grades that first semester. But don't kid yourself.. rush is still happening that first semester with all the parties.. it's just dirty rush.

So many kids at the other schools don't even make grades during the Fall b/c of rush.. and are on academic probation going into their second semester.
