Small world

Postby mrydel » Wed Nov 22, 2006 4:29 pm

Thought I might relate a little stroy from last weekend. Prior to the Tulsa game I took my wife to Northpark Mall for preshopping festivities and scouting. We visited the Sharper Image store where a pleasant young lady noticed my SMU logo shirt. She asked if we were playing and said her mother was an alumnus and her brother was a senior, and then continued to say that her grandfather (mother's father) was the former groundskeeper at Ownby Stadium. I have gone blank on his name (Gordon I think and a long strange last name). I think I remember him from my days there but it was so long ago I am not sure. She said her mother cried when they tore down Ownby because the father/grandfather actually lived in an apartment on the second floor under the stands and the mother and daughter spent much time there. They got windows and bricks from the stadium during the demolition. Just seemed to bring the world a little closer.

I've got one of those bricks, too. Just a little piece of SMU history.

I have one as well. Received it as a cherished gift.
