According to The Ticket guys (i.e., Corby, Gordo, and Mike), McFarlin was built in the early '60s. Okay, they did't go to school on the hilltop, but still. They did say it's a great place for a concert, though, as many of us know.

It was a few years before my time but a friend actually saw The Police play there in the Fall of '80.
The place has definitely hosted plenty of diverse events over the years.

The best one of all has to be Jimi Hendrix opening up for the Monkees at Moody in the late Sixties

FYI...McFarlin Auditorium was opened in 1926 and is one of ten SMU buildings listed on the National Historic Register.

So much for the knowledge of the Ticket Guys.

In the mid-sixties, the Chi Omega sorority chapter at SMU held a series of benefit concerts for the Wadley Blood Bank in Dallas at McFarlin. Memorable performances by The Carpenters, Bread, New Christy Minstrels, Peter Nero, Pete Fountain and the Jim Cullum Jazz Band.
Other memorable - or less than memorable - concerts at McFarlin were: James Taylor (twice), George Benson, Gino Vanelli and Barry Manilow.
One of the best concerts I ever saw was at Moody Coliseum in 1977: Elton John.

huh....now I wouldn't have thought that SMU would have allowed that type of show at McFarlin, but I guess if the money is right.

Chi-O also set up a fine buffet backstage for the artists. I heard Karen chose not to partake.
