Morrison-Bell Parking Garage

Postby Bergermeister » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:36 pm

Anybody know how tall the new parking garage will be? Things sure look nice when you're able to look across campus from Moody and Ford. Looks like their leaving the Lambda Chi trees and at least a little green space across from Moody. Any timeline on upgrades to the soccer stadium?

Maybe they should put some levels below ground to increase the parking capacity.

The large hole in the ground would indicate that they did indeed think of that.

A few interesting [engineering] things about it...
It will contain electric car charging stations, in accordance with LEED specifications in order to help the Embry building attain a higher certification standard. It is also supposed to have a rather large capacity; much larger than Moody and/or Airline Garages. Since it is [supposedly] being built to LEED standards, it will also use a lot of local/regional materials and has to maintain a few other goofy standards for drainage/irrigation/etc.

Meanwhile...I should build an electric car. I don't care how efficient it is, as long as it'll make it to campus and back so SMU can foot my travel expenses.

I could probably be your father. And if you were born in Dallas in the late 60's, I might be.

Since there are no electric cars, what kind of charging station are they putting in? 120V, 208V etc? More money wasted on meaningless LEED points. Any idea what level (gold, silver, etc) they are trying to build this structure?

For the record, I knew that was Ready Kilowatt. I have a tie-pin and cufflink set.

The actual parking garage will not be attaining LEED certification, but attributes of the parking garage will contribute to the rating for the Embry Building. The Embry building (we'll know for sure in August) is on par for the gold standard. I'm not so sure which things from LEED they have to adhere to in the construction, since the actual parking facility isn't a registered project. My guess is the charging stations will be 240V 3-phase.
