There is the press release. Not nearly as exciting as the name leads one to believe. Not really a force, more of a casual discussion whilst sitting round a conference table with a fancy name.

I truly hope this is going to make a difference but old habits die hard. The number of tragedies SMU has suffered in the last academic year was, to put it mildly, unexpected and clearly needs to be addressed. This group must really go all out to stop dangerous alcohol and drug intake because simply put, it's about time someone does something...It's difficult to understand why it had to take not one, not two but three deaths for something to be done.

Borrow a drug sniffing dog for Dallas Police.
Do random walks through the dorms AND ANY on campus housing.
When you find something, call and write the parents and put person on probation and on second offense - EXPEL.

When you find drugs with a DPD dog, shouldn't you charge the person with a crime as well?

This happens all over the country at college campuses. It all starts with the parents raising good kids that can navigate through temptation when put on their own. There is only so much SMU can do to prevent students from getting into these kinds of situations.

This will do nothing to stop hardcore druggies, but will lessen casual reponsible pot smoking and get more people in trouble with the school and the law.

When someone fires up a joint, you can smell it all over the dorm. You don't need pot sniffing dogs, just make sure the RA's use their own olfactory nerves and they can be the first responder who says, "do that again, and I'll have to write you up." The problem with ratting kids out to their parents are the privacy rules. The application form should have a waiver form in there which says that the school may share any disciplinary violations or academic deficiencies with my parents. If the kid won't sign it, doesn't get accepted. Then the school can call parents if Junior or Missy are stoned or drunk and report the problem to the parents. I know if the school called my dad and reported that I was drunk all the time, he'd have probably pulled me out of school and enrolled me at the local community college or taken me to the army recruiting station.

This is society in general now days. Don't fool yourself. You don't think this happens at other places either???!!!
Problems such as these start in the homes - not the universities, the workplace, etc.
