SMU Economics Prof Ravi Batra is interviewed in September's Smart Money magazine on page 95. None of his predictions for economic disaster came true in the early ninties. Now he has come out with a new prediction: the economic collapse of the US and a social revolution in a couple of years, of course! His new book, Crash Proof sees the popping of the US housing bubble as a harbinger of a wider disaster. He says that as home prices fall, people will no longer tap the equity in their homes for extra cash. That means less consumer spending, which translates into fewer jobs, a recession and a considerably poorer American population. His book sales are considerably less for this book than his previous books and has only a sales ranking of 796 on Amazon.com.
They have his picture on page 98 in front of Dallas Hall.

Invite Jim Cramer to campus to debate Batra. That'll get some pub.

Does the new book talk about the recent equity of 401(K) plans? 401(K) plans are a fairly new investment mechanism for the majority of Americans. This allows a different venue for wealth accumulation beyond home equity. With this enormous wealth available, will economies collapse? I just wonder if this economist has updated his economic theories to reflect the generation of wealth via a fairly recent investment mechanism.

You might want to ask him if he still feels soreness in his [deleted] for his prior prediction blowing up in his face.
If I'm you, I respectfully challenge every theory he throws out. Don't accept his word as gospel.
Or if you want to get ugly...just tell him you found that book at half-price books and the clerk actually paid you to take it out of their fiction shelves.

Half Priced Books is a semi-respectable store. You found it in the $1.99 bin at WalMart.
