Bob Hope's family will be auctioning off thousands of his 'personal mementos' for a charity in October. S.M.U. should try and buy some of 'em to put on display at The Bob Hope Theatre on campus.

Did he actually attend SMU? I thought he was just an honorary member of the faculty, after getting kidnapped by the Mustang Band or somesuch.

No, he did not attend S.M.U. However, he did hold an 'honorary doctorate' from the school and served on the board of trustees from 1968-1976. More info on Hope's connections with S.M.U. at this link:

sadly, if someone were to make the same statement these days in front of a packed Moody, you'd hear "Texas" then "Longh..." and the place would erupt into a standing 'O', probably with an a capella rendition of Texas Fight.

Do you remember the specific year? I didn't hear a year referenced. Obviously, Dr. Shields was there so that provides some time-frame.

Don't recall specifically. I was there '83-'88 as an undergrad, so in that period.
