Anyone read the part about the 'Gender Parity Initiative' in the engineering school? Does it sit wrong with anyone that the goal of the E-school is apparently to get to a 50/50 gender mixture, instead of to attract the best engineering students possible?

I think the GPI is BS.
I do not believe women are in any form or fashion less capable of becoming successful engineers, but we shouldn't affirmative action other students out if they are better qualified.

Until we realize that men and women have different brains. In the same way the bodies of men and women are different, the minds will be different too. It is foolish to see 50/50 representation in all things between men and women when men and women tend to be interested in different subjects!
I think the real gender crisis right now is the extreme lack of male teachers in elementary through high school. I think it is natural to assume that male teachers will teach in a fashion that reaches boys better than girls and vice-versa, and puts boys at a disadvantage. Couple this with the number of no-father households and you can see why boys are failing in school due to disinterest and behavioral problems at an increasing rate.
