Please note: The announcement that the Bush Library is coming to SMU is a major story, obviously, and merits discussion.

However: as has been said many times before, there are several topics for which this is not the correct forum, and politics is on that list of topics. Please make sure comments (pro or con) relate to the library and how it relates to SMU, its employees, students, alumni, etc. This is not the forum for bashing or praising Bush's policies, political philosophy, international relations, etc. There are plenty of other websites out there for that kind of conversation, and posts and threads and posters veering to heavily into partisan political discussion will be removed. This site policy is not indicative of any political leanings on our behalf, merely a recognition that the library and the president after whom it will be named represent a polarizing hotbutton that can spark emotional reactions. We have granted some latitude recently on some topics, but this is one on which we will not waver.

PonyFans.com is, and will remain, a website dedicated to supporting and discussion of the university, particularly its athletic department and the administrators, coaches, staff, student-athletes and teams who make up the SMU athletic department.

Thank you
Webmasters

While appreciate your position and desire to avoid controversy on your board, I disagree that you can be considered "a website dedicated to supporting and discussion of the university" when you exclude discussion of this new library, which will be the most talked about addition to the university in most of our lifetimes.

And moreover, nothing I've read in the threads currently being developed talk about anything other than the effect of the presence of the library on the university and its public perception. Having said all of that, I will do my best to keep my contributions within the parameters of your allowed content.

You're right - removal of anything that mentions the library would be wrong, given our stance in the SMU community, and discussion is not prohibited at all, as long as it's about the library and the university, is fine. When it veers off into political campaigning, that's when it crosses our line. (If you haven't seen anything over the line, it's because some posts and threads already have been removed.)

As I noted earlier, it's hard to take this policy seriously when I've seen John McCain banner ads here...

You do realize don't you that individual posts can be removed without removing the whole thread. In other words, jt cannot get a sticky thread deleted.

A. I laughed out loud when I read that. Good job.

Trust me, PonyFans.com supports no particular candidate or political agenda - we have a pretty wide range of ideas and people we support. Those ads are sold through a network ad placement service that places ads on all kinds of sites, not just ours.

What about posts about SMU getting the Al Gore Should've Been Presidential Library directly across the street? I don't think we've had enough discussion about that. I hear they are revising Frank Lloyd Wright's falling water designs for the library. The unofficial name for the structure is currently "hanging chads and melting glaciers" - and apparently the main portico is said to be resplendent with an "inventing the internet" vibe.

Note: "Should've" relates to the popular vote and not to any person or persons political view.

It would be more fitting as a virtual library.

Maybe they could locate it on Mars and they could study the melting ice caps there.
