Does anyone know the condition of the students involved in the car wreck early this morning with the drink driver? I hope they are all right.

Excerpted from the aforementioned article:

"Authorities arrested Mr. Palacios earlier this year for driving while intoxicated, his fourth, Ms. Leach said. He already was facing DWI charges from that incident and another in 2007, and had been involved in two police chases prior to Monday’s crash.

Mr. Palacios was thrown from his vehicle, Ms. Leach said. His passenger, Didiana Espinoza, 23, had to be cut from the wreckage. Both were taken to Baylor Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. "

I honesly don't care about Mr. Palacios, but why the he!! is he not already in jail for his FOURTH DWI?

Whenever I read about DUIs, I wonder why nobody has ever tried to require bars to have a breathalyzer by the door so people can see what they are blowing. (TWSS) Who really knows what .08 feels like?

Obviously this does not apply to this guy who clearly was probably way over and has a major drinking problem.

Bumping this to see if any updates are to be had concerning the students in the crash. Yes, we can discuss the evils of the legal system and dwis all day, but my concern is with the students involved.

"Five SMU students were in the other SUV that was struck.

Several were injured, but none had life-threatening injuries, police said."

Thank you. Earlier reports had one person with burns and a broken arm. If this is the extent and extremity of the injuries to our fellow mustangs, we can all be very grateful, considering the injuries and deaths to others.

I believe the woman with the burns and broken arm was in the vehicle with the suspected drunk driver who fled from the police.

Saw this today:

I have to admit that this makes me a bit antsy.

Good thing my daughter was at Taos this past weekend or I'd have been sweating bullets.

Is your daughter a President's Scholar? If so, congrats!

HB Pony Dad and his daughter are great assets to the SMU community. We had dinner with them (and HB Pony Dad's girlfriend) two weeks ago here in Dallas. They're a joy to be around and I believe you'll be hearing a lot about his daughter during her time on The Hilltop.
