they DID renew her scholarship but found her "allegations" against Coach Romp to be against school conduct. She was then kicked off the team.

Im guessing she left school if she wasnt kicked out of school.

hope this doesnt get too ugly

She didnt leave school, at least not immediately. This all started when her parents tried to get Coach Rompola fired. They went to Orsini with a long list of what they called violations (other players missing curfew, etc.) and a petition they were circulating asking that Rompola be replaced. Orsini didnt find any real substance behind their allegations, and yanked Jen's scholarship. At the time I was surprised she lost her scholarship, I thought they would just kick her off the team, but let her stay. She did stay in school at SMU for at least a year after that, even came to alot of the games. I'm not surprised they filed a lawsuit, they've been threatening to for years. To my knowledge they dont have a leg to stand on, and the 2 million dollar tag is laughable. Their claim is that being kicked off the team here cost her a chance to play professionally, and win endorsements.

SMU seems confident in their position here, legally. They seem willing to go to court, rather than settle. This has about as much merit as Chad Elsey's suit against Baylor a few years ago.

I believe that women's basketball scholarships, like men's basketball are not 4 years schollies, but 1 year schollies renewable at the discretion of the coach and AD. At some schools they don't renew the schollies for mere lack of production on the floor. SMU unlike UT and other schools generally doesn't pull scholarships because the athlete turned out to not be that good on the floor. Going to the AD to get the coach fired, disrespecting the coach, and getting kicked off the team is one sure fire way to not get your schollie renewed. What was she thinking would happen?

Should have kicked her out of the university, not just yanked her scholly.

"The origins of the lawsuit come from an initial team meeting Colli attended as a freshman, where she says Rampola spent the bulk of the time talking about how much she "disapproved" of intra-squad coital relations and very little about basketball."

"Colli says that plenty of the Lady Mustangs were saddling up to each other (coaches, too!) , but she feels that Rompola's "disapproval" of lady love in her program made it an uncomfortable situation for her."

I hope this doesn't provoke more "Milk" posts.

Maybe we can get Sean Penn to replace Rhonda.
