To ensure the Super Bowl to be played in Arlington in 2011 goes off without a hitch, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee has named Bill Lively president and CEO of the committee.

Lively, who has an impressive career overseeing large-scale special events, will be leaving his current position as president and CEO of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts and assuming his new role, effective Jan. 1, 2009. He will report to Robert Staubach, who is chairman of the host committee.

Lively will remain on the Performing Arts Endowment Trust as president and CEO.

Before this appointment, Lively was involved as the group’s host committee volunteer president and CEO. In his volunteer position, Lively has already assisted the host committee in its effort to develop management infrastructure, appoint board of directors and executive committee members and expand the committee’s overall membership.

Lively gained experience in large-scale campaign operations at the Dallas Center for Performing Arts, where he oversaw a campaign that raised $338 million to design and build the center, which is slated for opening in 2009.

As the leader of the Super Bowl Host Committee, Lively will be spending a great portion of the next two years generating sponsorships and funding to develop and roll out events for Super Bowl XLV.

Lively also spent 25 years at Southern Methodist University, holding various administration and faculty positions.

During his time at SMU, Lively served as the university’s vice president for development, public affairs, alumni relations and lecture programs. He spearheaded the development of the Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series, the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies, as well as the Doak Walker National Running Back Award and SMU’s Athletic Forum.

He also helped SMU raise more than $280 million while serving as a director of one of the university’s campaigns.
Lively also is well-versed in professional sports, spending 23 years working on behalf of the Dallas Cowboys and the National Football League.
