SMU Gift help

Hey guys...A family friend of mine has a son graduating from SMU this spring and she wants to get him a nice SMU wristwatch...something in the $500-$750 range if possible. I figured if there was any group of guys that might be able to help me, it would be ponyfans. Any places near SMU do nice SMuUrelated men's watches? Any place online?

Thanks so much for any help, and sorry for putting this in the football forum, I just wanted some visibility.

A quick Google search sent me to this web site:

Only problem is, every watch on that site has the wrong pony logo, the one with the S curve tail.

Look at the red box at the top where it says "Southern Methodist Mustangs Watches" - the logo inside the red box is the right one, yet it's not even on the watches.

If you're looking for a higher-end watch, or at least one that looks like one, I would suggest the SMU Bookstore on Mockingbird Lane. They have some watches in a display case in the back of the store that are more upscale-looking than these.

Good luck.

I have 2 identical watches that look very nice. They have a gold inlay that has an embossed Dallas Hall that is the face of the watch. The gold inlay is actually nothing much more than the gold wrapping on the chocolate coins you can get as treats, but under the crystal it looks very nice. Problem is the watch is a Seiko so if you want a higher scale priced watch this would not be it. Also, both were gifts so I have no idea from where they came. I have never seen them anywhere.

I have one of those SMU Seikos and they're nice - much more on the level of a graduation gift than the no-name brands you can buy on the internet.

They used to advertise those SMU Seiko watches in the alumni magazine 20-25 years ago, but I'm sure they are long out of production.

Jeffrey Lebowski: Have you considered an SMU ring instead? A few years ago SMU started touting an official school ring. I'm not sure how you go about getting one, but they're not bad. It's a signet ring with the school seal on top.

But if you're dead-set on spending $500 on an SMU watch, you might talk to a local jeweler. Maybe they can add an SMU logo or seal to a nice watch. It would require removing the crystal, so be sure it's someone who knows what they're doing.
