This Vodicka is a real tool. He has no case. They're not even building the library on the University Gardens site.
How about an investigation into who's providing support to Vodicka in his never ending attempt to embarass/hassle the Bushes? DMN won't get into that....
The school just wanted the land (possibly for the Bush Library or possibly for future expansion). It has long been the policy of the school to acquire as much land around the school as possible for future growth. If Moody ever was going to be replaced, a new arena would probably be placed closer to Mockingbird for traffic reasons, and for aesthetic reasons. For Vodicka and Taffel, this is just a case of playing your hand too far and getting nothing. They wanted to be the last people bought out, so that they could jack their prices up to hold up values, and got burned. Now they figure that if they become big enough jerks, that the school will pay them whatever they want. They should cut their losses and move on.
I have heard stories of the settlement discussions as well. Money is only part of what he wants. Vodicka is off his rocker.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I must be dirty today I first read your comment as Clinton got off easy with only a few dozen sluts
For shame! All good Arkansasns know that a few dozen sluts is beneath Clinton's capabilities!
Be patient. These high-profile hits take time. I think there is a waiting list.
Any specifics?
The Board-approved master plan back in 1992-93 called for acquisition of the University Gardens in a piecemeal fashion. It was not a priority, IMHO, until after 1995, upon Turner's hiring. In 1994, an attempt was made to turn UG into what is now Mockingbird Station, with emphasis on student housing (the outfit trying to do it was good at student housing & multi-family at the time). The time horizon for getting it done wasn't acceptable to the ROI required in order to do the project.
Fastforward 10+ years, and here we are. I think Vodicka is a) wrong, b) knows it, and c) doesn't care. He's not on a schedule. The fact that UG doesn't play into the actual library all that much is kind of irrelevant at this point. SMU still wants the property, and it will be adjacent to a Presidential Library. Six on the one hand, a half-dozen on the other. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
I believe that SMU has been concerned for awhile now that at some point in time some non-SMU related commercial interest would acquire the property and cut off SMU's expansion capabilities. SMU's only real option for expansion of the campus is to the east. They can't really jump over Hillcrest or Mockingbird and expanding north would raise a flurry of objections from UP.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
