STUDENTS WANT MASCOT VOTE

As reported by Lori Stahl in the Dallas News: The Daily Campus reports that members of the student senate are pushing for a vote to name Peruna the official mascot. Good move. However, it seems that after 75 years, Peruna would be our common law mascot. Good move, Senate.

It's a resolution that will be brought to the student senate next week. Here's the resolution:

They've done a nice job writing this up. It covers everything: making Ms. Pickens happy, keeping the Wild Horse Foundation in the spotlight, and keeping Peruna as the university's official mascot. It should never have gotten this far, though.

i hope all those students who are doing this are actually going to be coming to the games and staying for the entire game. This could be one of those anti-authority types deals where people do things and then after it is done no support is given to the football team.

One of them is a Peruna Handler.

Figures. I hope the others continue to support the football team by showing up at the games and staying.

I also think that this sends a message to the likes of Turner and Orsini and their minions that if you are weighing these types of decisions that affect the fabric of SMU, you better be inclusive with the student body.

After all, the students and alums are really the university, not the administrators. That's something they should always remember.

So the following school mascots must be lies:

Navy has a goat; they are the Midshipmen.

A&M has a Collie; they are the Aggies.

Tennesse has a hound dawg (a blue tick I think); they are the volunteers.

Army has a mule.

It's called tradition.

During UNC's loss to Fla. St. Thursday night, they kept showing their mascot. It is a horrific cross between a ram and some kind of mutant goat. I kept thinking, the difference between SMU and UNC is that they have a lot more people at their games, they show more school spirit, and after the game nobody tries to blame the loss on the mutant goat.
