Brackets Open for Business

Postby Pony_Fan » Mon Dec 13, 2010 9:49 pm

The old space of Trader Vick's is now Brackets. Ping Pong, Pool, and Wii games - along with TV's.
Need to check it out.

What's on their menu besides wings?

Couple of the reviews there said it was overpriced — how expensive is it?

Really will miss Trader Vic's. Always ate there while in Dallas. Great memories from the 70's, too.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Is this place the second coming of Hully and Mo's? What do they aspire to be and to which audience? Because the pricing and selection is over the top for a sports bar. But your "activities" in the bar (Wii, ping pong, etc) would appear to target a younger demographic. But that demographic wont drop $30 for a dinner entree.

I shouldnt have even bothered to look at the drink menu because I know what was coming...but I did anyway. Wow. These are almost NYC prices. $5 for a domestic bottle puts them at the highest price point in the city to my knowledge. I'm betting a simple Makers and Coke will be $8-$10. Now, dont get me wrong. I live in uptown and its not exactly cheap to drink there. I'm happy with a $2.75 draft of miller light. That's dirt cheap in Uptown, which is kinda sad. As far as Liquor, I can live with Makers/Jack at $6-$8 per drink. It's not fun but that's about what you get outside of happy hour. I might stop by just to see the place and order a Maker's. I'm betting minimum of $8 with a max of $12. ANd I'm betting a weak pour. We will see. Might even make this my mission today after the Salvation Army Charity thingy.

It'll have to make it off the residents and guests - on an expense account - at the Palomar. A place like that won't be a hangout. See you at 1st and 10!

For the beers on draft, it's reasonable especially for a pint. No sense in drinking bud light for 5 when you can get a pint of fireman's 4 or blue moon.

Can't see this lasting long.
If you want to watch sports and play pool/darts/whatever, just drive a block up the service road and go to Milo's. Much cheaper.
Plus going to an 'upscale' sports bar just sounds [deleted]. You go to a sports bar to watch the game and hang out with buddies - no need to impress anyone.

As for Trader Vics, still surprised it shut down. When it reopened it was the place to be and I thought it had found a niche for special nights out. Plus it was a fun place to take dates - they loved the whole atmosphere there. Bonus: some of their drinks were surprisingly strong. :)

I do not go to strip clubs, but if you're going to charge me $9 for a beer you damn well better lift your top. The guy at Rangers Ball park knows this.../

I hear Trader Vics went under new management and they decided to close the Dallas location. Too bad, as skyscraper said, the drinks were great there.

$11 for a chicken sandwich, eh? I'll stick to the spicy chicken at Wendys

And it smells like an ashtray.
So you've got that going for you ... which is nice.

Hello Pony Fans,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that the pricing is a concern and it is under review. We are only a few weeks old, so we're still trying to work out all of the kinks! Because of overhead costs and the quality of food we are going for, we won't be at the same price point Milo's or 1st & 10(although we love them both!). However, we do very much want Brackets to be a home for Pony fans of all ages. Keep up with the feedback, we're listening. We'll be open on the 30th after the bowl game, so come see us to celebrate the big win. Pony UP!
