National Mustang Club Introduction Correspondence

Greetings from the Hilltop!
Forgive the informal salutation on this email, but several of you have provided some great feedback on our new Mustang Club web site, and we wanted to get you this information about the National Mustang Club as quickly as possible. I have talked and/or corresponded with several of you in the last two weeks, and I will personally be in touch with those I have not connected with this week.
We have been busy preparing our 2011 Donor and Ticket Guide (I will forward hard copies to each of you when they arrive next week) and our annual Mustang Club mailing this week. Additionally, I am also happy to report that we have compiled some great initial prospect lists of alumni and friends of SMU in your respective areas of the country. We will be forwarding those to you in a personalized email this week.
Additionally, just by word of mouth introductions about the NMC initiative, our NMC campaign has already accrued over $41,000 from NMC regions since discussions began in late October. This is prior to any formal “launch†introducing the initiative, so thank you for already having an impact!
In advance of our individual conversation this week, I wanted to provide a draft template for your emails that you may elect to send to prospects both in your area and fellow alumni and friends throughout the nation. Even if some of those are in Dallas, please don’t assume they already support the Mustang Club. J
This draft below can certainly be tailored to your specific style and messaging, but many of you indicated a “starter kit†draft on verbiage would be helpful. We can certainly discuss further strategies and other questions on our call this week.
Thank you again so much for supporting SMU and, specifically, our National Mustang Club initiative. The draft template is as follows:

Greetings (NAME):
As a member of the Southern Methodist University community, thank you in advance for taking a few moments of your time to review this email. It is very exciting for me to be involved on the inaugural National Mustang Club initiative. The Mustang Club is the official booster support organization for SMU Athletics.
Launching in over 20 cities and geographic regions in 2011, the National Mustang Club (NMC) is designed to engage new donors and expand Mustang Club support to never before seen heights. Each year, the NMC will be a driving force towards direct investment in our athletic department’s most precious resource – our 429 talented student-athletes.
In the classroom, each of our 17 programs exceeded the NCAA's Academic Progress Report (APR) requirements for the previous academic year. In addition, four teams - men's golf, cross country, women's swimming and women's tennis scored perfectly in the metric. With Mustang Club increased support, our new Center for Development of Student-Athletes, focused specifically on academic support and retention, became a reality this fall and can continue to thrive.
In addition to the recent renaissance of our football program under head coach June Jones, there are additional examples of where your Mustang Club gift can make an impact. SMU again finished as the top-ranked Conference USA school in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division I standings for 2010. Without the increase in private support from Mustang Club, these successes would not be a reality.
As a member of the National Mustang Club Leadership Council, I hope you will join me in helping the Mustang Club move the dial and fulfill our department’s mission of being Top 25 nationally in everything we do. Please take a few moments to browse the newly launched Mustang Club web site:
www.smumustangclub.com
There are several informational links to better acquaint you with the Mustang Club and even a “Donate Today†button that takes you directly to SMU’s secured server to make an online gift.
If you have any questions about the Mustang Club, benefit levels, or to get involved as a volunteer with the NMC initiative, please let me know a good time we could visit. On behalf of SMU, its head coaches, administration and talented student-athletes, thank you for consideration of your gift. Every dollar truly counts!
