The administration is catching a ton of flack on the SMU Facebook profile.

check it out...

to be honest they have been getting hated on, and rightfully so, for thier slow response to the bad weather since last week.

today has turned it up a notch.

not many happy campers out there in Hilltop land. Not sure why they decided to stay open today.. At least cancel morning classes today. I haven't bothered to try to venture out today.

yeah. poor showing. if DISD cancels, everyone inside their borders should cancel. SMU students don't all live on campus, and many don't even live near campus.

in fact at least 2/3 of SMU students live off campus, I being one.

my prof cancelled class today siting that she could not get to campus.

this happened last year on that Friday when we got 12-13 inches of snow, the University refused to cancel classes until 3pm when there was already at least 10 inches of snow on the ground.

I don't know what in the world is going on in Turner's mind or the quality of advice he is receiving, but one thing for sure is that he has made himself the focal point of blame since the decision to close school due to inclement weather is his alone.

i just got off the phone w/ Tim McMurray, and he said from his office in Ford, he's seen at least 4 kids slip and fall on the ice.

ur a [deleted]

i personally would have made it to class no problem, i live in chicago and this isnt a big deal to me.

two important differences between here and there.

the municipality of Dallas and University park do not in the slightest way have anything to cope w/ these conditions. seeing them pour dirt on the ice in the hopes that it will help is one of the funniest things i have ever seen, they really don't know a damned thing

i have plenty of winter weather gear that makes walking on ice and snow a non-issue for me so getting to class a half mile form where i live isnt a problem. however, about 2/3 of our student body is from Texas or Orange County, CA...how many of those people do you think have any idea about how to properly handle this weather?

You would think a lawsuit fearing institution like SMU would close classes quickly. All you need is one student to get seriously hurt or killed and they are going to try to reem SMU.

I know of at least one student who did successfully sue the school after falling and getting injured on an ice covered walkway on campus. I believe the student bought a fairly nice home with the proceeds.

A friend of mine that went to class today said about 30 minutes ago there was an ambulance with flashing lights outside of Cox on the Boulevard.

I had four classes today, but one class cancelled. Two of my professors gave excused absences.

I don't know what the admin was thinking with leaving school open. From what I've heard from friends, it is as bad as it sounds out there. I just was not going to take a chance -- I don't think I would have ever made it from Plano. The administration needs to try and keep commuter students and their staff and faculty in mind too.

have a business in Lincoln.

I would say I shouldve gone to Little Rock, since I still need to make it there and buy mrydel lunch, but sounds like this week and last wouldve been a bad time to go there as well.

You are correct. 6-8 inches so far, but just snow, no ice. I want lunch on a patio weather when you come. I will open the airports for that.
