DeLee, William Carter Beloved husband and father, died May 29, 2011 at his home after an illness of three months. A native Dallasite, Bill was born February 5, 1925, was graduated from Forest Avenue High School and received his degree from Southern Methodist University in 1949. During World War II, Bill served in the Army Air Corps and, later, was an officer in the Air Force Reserve. In 1968, he was named to SMU's Career Hall of Fame and was a frequent guest lecturer in the MBA program at SMU's Cox School of Business. In recent years, he and his wife were active in the SMU Mustang Club as fundraisers for the Athletic Department and avid football fans. He began his career with Employers Casualty Insurance Company before joining Anderson-Clayton Foods (now merged into Kraft), where he became Vice-President, Human Resources until his retirement in 1987. Recognized as a leader in human resources management, he was invited into the national Personnel Roundtable, then one of only 25 personnel executives selected from Fortune 500 corporations. He served as president of the Dallas Personnel Association and was presented with the key to the city of Humbolt, TN, where he was responsible for establishing the town's largest employer, an Anderson-Clayton plant. Bill was a long time member of Lakewood Methodist Church and for several years also volunteered at the Wilkinson Center and at the First Presbyterian Stewpot ministry. He is survived by his wife, Darleene; two daughters, Janet DeLee and Cynthia DeLee Denman and son-in-law, Charles Denman and brother-in-law, Wayne Harris, all of Dallas; a granddaughter, Jenna DeLee and great grandson, Gunnor Garcia of Arvada, CO, and numerous well-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Gladys DeLee, a brother, Scott DeLee, Jr., a sister, Gladys DeLee Berger, his wife of 58 years, Betty Cannon DeLee and a son, Robert DeLee. Visitation will be from 6:00PM - 8:00PM, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service will be Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 12:30pm at Restland Memorial Chapel. Private graveside service will be held earlier in the day.
