I was traveling to visit family in NC and a guy about 18 or so sat down next to me on the leg from Dallas to Birmingham.

I had just cracked "The Big Short" by Michael Lewis and the young man (feels strange typing that being that im 23, but anyway) commented that I was "Tearing that book up!" I think I had made in through 11 pages.

I commented that it was an enjoyable read and that the author had written "The Blind-Side" which luckily he knew.

He then said, "You must go to 'Bama" to while I politely replied "No, I Went to SMU in Dallas"

I didn't really understand why he said that for a minute, and then I had to laugh to myself....clearly this guy, from who-knows-where, thought that because I was reading a book on a plane that I must be "learned" or something and that 'Bama was a place where smart people who like to read go...i enjoyed the idea that he thought i went there just becuase i was reading, and probably more that he thought 'Bama was a place of respected higher-learning.

later I considered whether this was his first time on a plane becuase when the stewardess came by asking for drinks he asked for a "Big ole thing of orange juice" and made a gesture that suggested he wanted it in a bowl perhaps....he seemed totally unaware that everyone gets a small cup of ice with a dash of liquid that resembles what you order, and likes it.

i guess what surprised me is that this was a well mannered and well groomed guy who was clearly kind of a moron...i guess the moral of this tale is that those rednecks over in the SEC have discovered showers and hair product, you have been warned.
