Hard times for SMU alums

Postby couch 'em » Sat Dec 03, 2011 10:00 am

I took the & day Carnival cruise out of Galveston to progresso and Cozumel. Once across the Lido deck I saw a mustang club hat on a gentleman.

When two SMU alums are both on the cheapest cruise of all, its a bad sign. Will the CoC meet its obligations?

Carnival can be fun...some of the "richest" people in the world do little things to save $$, that is why they are rich..ever see the car Lamar Hunt drove? Ross Perot's ride? I would classify some wealthy folks I know as "cheap"...BEAT PURDUE!

There was a good book called 'The millionaire next door'. If more people had read it perhaps we (the USA) wouldn't be in quite the situation we are in today.

Such is why we took Carnival. They're pretty much all the same unless you go really premium anyway.

Canard, Princes, and Carnival all owned by the same corporation.
This will make my tenth cruise 2nd on Carnival. One on RC 8 on Princess. Some people have hit ten + times that many.

I like Carnival exsept in the summer by the pool...

Carlos Slim family wont pay my broke tour guide friend for a water taxi ride. They fake it like their going to buy a boat and that's a fact he finally told them no...

much prefer the Eastern Caribbean (St. Thomas, St. Martin, St. Lucia and even Puerto Rico) and Royal Caribbean but the Galveston Port has been a huge success. Just a decade ago they got their first ship a 20 year old clunker that had 1,000 passenger. Now Carnival has put the first brand new megaliner Carnival Magic in Galveston starting this week I believe that probably holds 3800 passengers and also has pretty nice Carnival Triumph with 2800 passengers for shorter cruises. (The Carnival Conquest now moves back to New Orleans) Also Royal Caribbean (Mariner of the Seas-great ship)and now even Disney (Disney Magic-I don't do Disney-overpriced) are sending seasonal fall and winter megaliners to Galveston that are high quality ships. The Galveston Port has been a huge success which is great for Texas and great for the City of Galveston which has had a rebirth. Now we've got 4 high quality cruise ships cruising from Galveston now. If you are cruising to the Western Caribbean there is absolutely no reason to fly to Florida now which can make a cruise very economical and save 1,000s on a family vacation.

Galveston as a whole has gotten much better in recent years, especially since Ike hit. While it's certainly not a tropical paradise it's a great cheap place to take the kids for a weekend during the summer. Given that we don't have a whole lot of driveable vacation options from Dallas it's good to see things improving down there.

Thankfully they finally stopped running the Carnival Ecstasy out of there on the cheap end, though...that ship was incredibly tired.

Couch in my opinion the newer carnival ships and princess are equal in quality . Princess is traditionally an older group carnivals more of the fun ship exactly what it means

I like 7 days or less as the group are younger

You don't wanna watch an 80 year old get in the hot tub for 2 weeks on the way to the islands trust me
