We were on the cover in the 80's...showing the stadium in LR when we played Arkansas on a rainy day around the penalty days

The SMU Death Penalty was on the cover with dollar signs in the eyeballs of Mr real estate..Sherwood Blount.

Google image 'sports illustrated SMU' and you'll see the SI comer with Doak. I only took a quick look, there might be another one there.

I can't remember if we made one of the tiny pictures in the corner on the cover, but I remember reading a long article in Sports Illustrated in Phil Bennett's first year after we beat Louisiana Tech at home about the program post-DP

The Blount dollar signs cover was Texas Monthly in October 1979 profiling Blount's success

Ah yes ... J.R. Reid. Talk about a college stud who underachieved in the NBA. There were a lot of people who really thought he would be a star for 10 or more years.
