So rumor is that our incoming freshman class will have an average SAT score just under 1300. That is the highest in school history and also is higher than every school in Texas except Rice - waaaaay above TCU, Baylor and yes, substantially above UT.

Pretty amazing climb in the last 5 yrs.

Pretty amazing clime in the last 5 yrs.

If we missed out on 1300 because you misspelled climb I am going to be really upset. :D *

*This is just a joke. I am not one to point out an error in spelling. I might, however point out Aaron Spelling if he were still with us.

You cannot edit the quote. Gotcha.

Although I will admit the weather has been relatively nice for the past 5 years.

Pretty remarkable how much harder it's become to get into SMU in the past few years

So is it really true that our incoming SAT average is almost 1300?

I'm hoping that in the next 3-5 years we pass UT on the US News & World Report list. We should be right around #40 with our ultimate goal in the next 10-15 years of being in the 25-35 range.

Yes it's true. We will likely move but it is a trailing 5 yr average on everything so the list moves slowly

I think we break 50 in next two yrs.

Strong engineering and business schools (and increasing enrollments there?) help the SAT averages quite a bit.

I talked to somone who attended the AARO sessions and apparently this incoming freshman class is not just the best in SMU history, but it is leaps and bounds the best incoming freshman class in SMU history. Just a few highlights:

- SAT average is right at 1300 (up over 15 points from the previous year's class) making it the second highest in the state well above UT-Austin, A&M, TCU, etc.

- Percentage of out-of-state students continues to rise (over 50%)

- Majority of the students in this class applied to much better peer institutions than previous classes. Most common are USC, Vanderbilt, UT-Austin, Tulane. Most of our kids are not even bothering with TCU, A&M, Baylor which has been a trend in the last several years.

- Acceptance rate was in the low 40's.

- Class size is slightly larger than previous years. School wants to eventually get to an undergrad population around 7,500.

With SAT inflation maybe. For instance an old 1220 would now be a 1280.
