Class Ring

I wanted to know how many people out there have class rings and wear them around? I just had to send mine back to balfour due to a the palm side band cracking in two. I guess a few too many times over the knuckle.
I have the current signet version, but I ran into a gentleman that had a class of 78? (mid to late 70s) That had an "Aggie" style ring with a red "gem" on it. Personally I would have rather have taken that option, as I like the larger style.

I think they standardized on the signet sometime and that's the only option.
I don't wear mine during the work day as I have to deal with a lot of clients who are tech, UH, or lower, and I find they react negatively to my being an SMU alum. Rich kid stereotype mixed with academic intimidation no doubt. I don't get that reaction from aggies or longhorns.

I never got an SMU class ring for UG, but do have one for my grad. I've thought about getting one after the fact, and prefer the signet...the whole "gem" stone feels very HS to me personally.

Why don't you just get one for each of the schools and switch out depending on where your client went.

haha, you could be an alumnus from each of the universities.
Ya the "gem" is a little high school, but I still like the idea of a bulky ring. I think the only place that doesn't give a hs feel is the Academy rings. Those are impressive

I'm the one who designed the signet ring back in 1973. It is much bulkier than the feminine version that they have been selling for these past many years.
If your customers think that your a pretentious SMU alum. Then I suggest you quit acting like a wimp !

I have a traditional class ring (Balfour) sitting in my safe deposit box. Simply put, I hate wearing rings and never got comfortable with it.
Luckily, my wife doesn't make me wear a wedding ring.

They went to the signet ring for the 100 year anniversary, which is fine. What was crap is that they made you select it if you wanted any ring, which is bullsh*t. I was able to get a traditional ring pretty easily by complaining to the young alumni office. Jostens/Balfour has all the designs on file for at least the last 40 years. Was able to get the '73 ring with '10 information on it no problem. Couple brothers did the same.

I got the Balfour 10k white gold when I graduated in 2007. Have worn it every day since. It's held up really well too because I've hit it against things all the time.

I would go through Andrew Snow; I think he's in the young alumni office. I know I get fundraising emails from him. He was my initial contact and seemed happy to help.

Thanks for the information. I'll send him an e-mail and see if I can get anything done.
