Dropping this on the bball page since all the activity is here today. http://educationblog.dallasnews.com/201 ... -job.html/Southern Methodist University’s top academic administrator is on the short list for a similar position in Wisconsin.
Paul W. Ludden, SMU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs since 2007, is one of four finalists for the provost job at Marquette University, a private Catholic institution in Milwaukee. According to Marquette’s website, Ludden spent two days on campus this week meeting with faculty, students and staff.
I’ve got requests in to Ludden and SMU spokespeople for comment. The Marquette Tribune wrote about Ludden’s visit and said he’s interested in coming to Marquette “because of its values.†He earned his PhD in Wisconsin and has a daughter living there. From the student paper: “Ludden also said he is most interested in being a provost again because it allows him the opportunity to work with faculty, students and staff to move the university forward.â€

Couldn't be rooting more that someone finds a job outside of SMU.

This absolutely needs to move to Around the Hilltop, even if that area is not "getting the traffic".
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

his eight year tenure has coincided with a nice SAT increase for the university.

There are other provosts who have raised their schools SAT average while also understanding that if you are going to participate in top tier athletics (which we have decided to do at all cost) you have to let in athletes, tudor them, and give them a path to a degree they can handle. He has been slow and bad at those items.

Just how did "He" raise the SAT scores? I thought that was a function of the number of applications and selection while maintaining your class/dormitory goals for the university. Basically, demand by high school seniors drives higher SAT scores. That is a function of many things, including academic reputation, marketing and recruiting, cost of attendance (we are failing) financial aid and intercollegiate athletic success.
Remember the first Hawaii Bowl? Our applications soared by over 90% the next year. This was based upon a university marketing study undertaken by the administration, not some study undertaken by the athletic department. The Administration couldn't/wouldn't answer the question in an open forum to Dallas donors as to the cause of this fantastic increase. So we sought out our President to privately confirm the cause. We told him we had been presented a copy of the university's outside study at the Mustang Club meeting only months earlier, that had attributed it to our bowl appearance and new excitement about our long dormant football program.
When trapped, he responded, "Well those weren't applicants we wanted anyway!". What arrogance and deceit!
