This thread is intended to be a running results forum for Men's Lacrosse results.

The team opened the season against the #21 ranked Texas State Bobcats. SMU was not ranked in the first poll however they did get a mention in the "getting votes" section.

SMU fell 4-5 and starts the season 0-1.

SMU will take on Texas Tech on 2/14/15 at 1pm at the IM Fields. Pony Up.

have to excuse my ignorance, but I'm curious about the significance of the #21 ranking. Does that mean TX State competes at the NCAA level? How many schools are competing at that level vs how many do lacrosse as a "club sport". Isn't that what SMU officially considers lacrosse? I assume that's another Title IX issue because I don't hear anything about women's lacrosse.

thanks in advance for taking the time to educate some of us

#21 club rankings my man. I don't think TX has any NCAA/D1 teams.

There are like 70 NCAA D1 LAX programs for men and ~100 for women.

NCAA LAX is an east coast/northeastern states stronghold.

SMU competes in an organization called the MCLA which features club lacrosse teams from over 200 Universities in the US and Canada.

The Under Armour MCLA Coaches Poll can be found at http://mcla.us/polls/2015/preseason/

MCLA is run as a virtual varsity organization featuring eligibility requirements, conferences, and a national tournament.

SMU plays in the Lone Star Alliance which covers Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Traditionally SMU has been an average team in the LSA; however, the current coaching staff has been in place for several years and has transformed the SMU Lacrosse team into a perennial contender for the LSA Championship.

Texas is the strongest team in the conference followed by Texas State (they have an excellent pipeline of D1 transfers).

Over the weekend, SMU took care of business against Texas Technical University by a score of 20-1.

Stat sheet here: http://mcla.us/game/16038/score.html

Next game will be Saturday the 21st against Oklahoma in Norman. Pony Up!

The boys lost their game in Norman by a score of 15-8. Looks like an OU attack went off for 8 goals.

Today's game vs LSU has been cancelled due to weather.

Southwestern has only NCAA program in Texas. Division 3.

Correction: apparently University of Dallas has a D3 program as well. Had no idea.

I am kind of curious as to why the Lacrosse thread was moved from "Other Sports". Has it not yet been classified as a sport?

Of course it's a sport — a great sport. But the post about the Albany/Cornell game at SMU underscored the fact that across is not an SMU/NCAA varsity sport. As has been discussed before, the OTHER SPORTS board will be for SMU/NCAA varsity sports other than football and basketball; lacrosse and other club sports will be on the AROUND THE HILLTOP board.

1. Club sports like lacrosse and hockey are virtual varsity at SMU. Thanks to the wonders that are title nine, that's the best they will be.
2. Club sports like lacrosse and hockey outdraw other SMU NCAA sports in student attendance, making them at least equally relavent.
3. This thread has a tremendous number of views on the other sports board, also making it relavent.

This discrimination against club sports is a travesty. PonyPride, it's your board, but removing SMU club sports from the other sports forum based on NCAA a title nine restrictions is a joke. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to discuss this further.
