I'm a huge Letterman fan. I haven't watched him much the last few years but I'm tuning in for the final week. Tom Hanks was great last night and Murray tonight but what was the deal with Bob Dylan? He looked like he had no clue where he was at and acted like he didn't even know who Letterman was. Is he that out of it these days?

I did not see it but I do know that Dylan has sounded out of it since the 60's. That is his persona. He lived the 60s to the fullest.

Definitely got more than his share of the gusto.

He is still considered deity within the recording industry, in spite of the practiced 'removed' personna image.

Incredible lyricist, hatchling voice. Pick a note, any note, Bob. Just stay with one.

Letterman defined the 80's for me. I stopped watching when he moved to NBC, though. What was edgy in the show was slickified. Case in point the Top 10 list.

I think several of the new guys are more talented frankly, and he has been running on fumes for at least 5 years, but he provided a ton of entertainment over the years and deserved a good send off.

With him retiring and Jon Stewart leaving, late-night TV is going to be SportsCenter only from now on. Those two are the best ever.

Carson's still the best ever. But Letterman's a good second for the alternative crowd, of whom I consider myself a strong member.

Of the ones left I like Jimmy Kimmel the best.

Letterman was edgy in the late slot back in the 80's and even a few years in the early 90's, but nothing truly epic. There are/were many more talented and funny than him.
