Thoughts on the Game:
1) Cal Poly has better players than SMU. Athleticism was about even, but they had significantly better stick skills and field awareness.
2) Early in the game SMU took really bad approach angles on their men (even on doubles) this let Cal Poly players get into the soft spots on the team defense.
3) CalPoly's face off men were outstanding - they were playing "Make It, Take It"
4) I would be interested to see the final stats, but it seemed like CalPoly got every single GB in the first 3 quarters.
5) SMU's substitution process is baffling. They substitute at the beginning of transition, this takes away your numerical advantage while clearing the ball. Then they substitute late on the defensive end and this gave CalPoly a numerical advantage against SMU's defense.
6) When SMU had the ball on offense they didn't move the ball and force the defense to continually readjust. This allowed CalPoly to get very comfortable and send continuous double teams - creating turnovers.
7) SMU's man down defense is really good - unfortunately they had to play it often.

Cal Poly was pretty good in transition offense. SMU was not (see substitution problems above).
9) Sadly, we were simply outclassed in this one.
