Re: Texas school tuitionCox is open admissions. Its obvious you have an axe to grind. Truth hurts. Did u attend SMU?
Re: Texas school tuitionYou must’ve graduated from SMU quite a while ago. Admission to Cox has been increasingly tough every year. My kids attend SMU and son was denied admission to Cox but started as a computer science major. Go figure.
Re: Texas school tuition.......so the apple does sometimes fall far from the tree?
Re: Texas school tuition
Nothing has changed. If your son can pass and do well in comp sci courses then Im sure he is in at Cox. SEAS has always been for those who can cut it academically. Sadly, Cox is not an academic pursuit. Just ask Jeff Skilling, a SEAS drop out that ended up 2nd in his class at Harvard.. B school. Re: Texas school tuitionImportant to remember: if one can do well in basketweaving at Tarleton State then she/he
is an attractive candidate to COX. Encourage your son to stick with comp sci. Might open up worlds to him. The BBA pales in comparison to a techinical degree when it comes to med school or even law school admissions.
Re: Texas school tuition
The question remains: did u attend SMU? Such the authority though..silence.
Re: Texas school tuitionI did not attend SMU but I probably know more about the school than most graduates. My spouse has taught there for 22 years, both kids attend and are active and I’ve been a Cox MBA associate board mentor for 20 years. I was also one of the 1500 in the lean hoops years.
Re: Texas school tuitionTriState knows what he is talking about.
There was a time when you could get into Cox with a GPA in a subset of courses. That is no longer the case and one must be admitted as a senior in high school and the ACT/SAT scores for that group a much higher than the rest of the University. Now if you are talking about graduate admissions at Cox - that is another story. Sad as it may be, you now only need a pulse and a checkbook tied to a sizeable bank account to have an opportunity to attain an MBA through the on-line program. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Texas school tuition
Data? to support your post? Certainly not higher than certain other schools/majors. So absurd its laughable.
Re: Texas school tuitionHow about this data. My son was rejected for Cox but got into computer science. It’s much tougher to get into Cox but tougher to stay in Lyle.
It’s only going to be tougher to get into Cox with the awesome new facilities.
Re: Texas school tuitionGlad I got admitted back in the dark ages after my sophomore year. With my pre-med crappy GPA, I was a little scared.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Texas school tuitionSome data:
Business Direct Student Completion of a minimum of 24 SMU credits. A minimum 2.750 all-college cumulative GPA earned at the conclusion of the first year. Successful completion of BLI 1110 and BLI 1210. For internal transfer it says 3.5 with successfull completion of Calc for Social Sciences and Basic Econ a requirement. Both obscenely easy classes that are nothing like SEAS. If one gets jammed In SEAS or Fondren Science ( hard low grade distribution courses ) then enroll in some easy Communications arts courses or take some J co courses at DCCD. In regards to GPA: Graduates from UT Austin with a 2.8 in Chemical or Electrical Engineering choose what companies they wish to work for. BBA's with 3.8's struggle to find jobs. GPA is relevant. Most BBA grads could not cut Physics or EE at SMU if their lives depended on it but believe whay you wish. Free country. Not knocking the BBA per se. Just dispelling the illusion that somehow its some super scholarly pursuit. Some careful navigation and even a super marginal student can rather easily gain an admission to Cox. Still. Song remains the same.
Re: Texas school tuitionSuccessful, happy people choose majors they find interesting and careers they care about.
Re: Texas school tuition
Somebody fact-check this: I have been told that it is really easy to get in just about ANY online MBA program. They are the ultimate example of credentialism.
