Weber Joins SMU; Three Mustang Staffers Earn Promotions

DALLAS (SMU) – Holly Weber is joining the SMU staff as Assistant A.D./Creative Services and athletic department staffers Janet Akinola, Spencer Jones and Kelli Swing have all been promoted to Assistant A.D. roles, Director of Athletics Rick Hart announced today.

Weber comes to SMU from Indiana, where she was Assistant Athletic Director for Graphic Design & Men's Basketball Branding. She will lead a new creative services unit which will serve as a one-stop shop for coaching staffs and will be responsible for external communication and engagement with key stakeholders. She also spent time at Missouri where she was a Digital Media Producer and at the Southern Conference where she was Director of Creative Services. She began her career in athletics as a Sports Information Coordinator at Tennessee Tech.

Akinola, who joined SMU as the Director of Compliance in September 2022, will now serve as Assistant A.D. for Compliance. Akinola helps to facilitate compliance for student-athletes, coaches, and staff to ensure members of the SMU community are knowledgeable about NCAA rules and regulations and works directly with the women's basketball, track & field, equestrian and tennis teams while assisting Associate A.D./Governance & Internal Affairs Ryan McCabe with football.

Jones joined SMU Athletics as Director of MustangVision in July 2016. He oversees the video operations for all of Mustang Athletics including video features, web streaming and video board operations for Moody Coliseum and Ford Stadium. He is also charged with bringing SMU's new SMPTE 2110 broadcast production facility online. This production complex will serve as the epicenter for SMU's coverage of ACC sporting events, offering enhanced capabilities for live broadcasts, studio shows, and digital content creation.

Swing, who is completing her 20th year on the Hilltop, is responsible for the healthcare of the women's basketball team and assists Associate A.D./Student Health and Well-Being Mike Morton in the overall operation of the training room, coordinating the physical and mental health care provided to SMU's 484 student-athletes. While intercollegiate athletics has a large focus on the physical demands for the student-athlete, SMU Athletics also understands the importance of providing resources to address the emotional and mental demands associated with being a student-athlete and has invested as such.
