Bill Hill named 2024 Silver Anniversary Mustang honoree

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Lettermen's Association's Board of Directors and its Silver Anniversary Mustang (SAM) Award Committee will honor Bill Hill as the recipient of the 2024 SAM Award on Saturday, February 15, at halftime of the SMU men's basketball game against Wake Forest. Hill '64, '67 captained the track and field team, winning the 1964 Southwest Conference title in the 440-yard relay, and was a member of school record-setting teams in all the sprint relay events.

Hill started his career as an Assistant District Attorney under the venerable Henry Wade in 1967. After 25 years in private practice, he returned to public service to honor his mentor and served as the Dallas County District Attorney for eight years. Hill was a recognized fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Hill has been the Director at Hilltop Holdings since 2008.

He has served SMU as President of the SMU Mustang Club Board of Directors, a member of the SMU Alumna Association Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Doak Walker Running Back Award. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association and was recognized by the National Football Foundation for his outstanding contributions to amateur football. His community leadership positions include serving on the Board of Directors for Oncor Electric Delivery Company and the Baylor Hospital Foundation. He is also a sustaining member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.

Each year, the SMU Lettermen's Association Board of Directors awards the SAM Award to a former letter winner at least 25 years removed from their time on campus. The recipient has brought honor to SMU, made contributions that have lasting and positive effects on his or her fellow citizens, and has been a model citizen in his or her community.
