From UT, looks like Hartzell is building his team.
https://www.smu.edu/news/latest/rachel- ... nd-provost. Elizabeth Loboa was a change agent and got us to R1, best wishes for her.

I really liked Provost Loboa. I thought her science background is what SMU has been lacking for serious research and development. I was hoping she would stay.
Good luck to the new Provost.

Not impressed with this individuals background. Communication
Arts? Basketweaving for the jet set?
Thanks to Dr Loboa for getting us to R1 but given the non scholarly
background of this new hire I remain skeptical we achieve AAU status
any time soon.

She double majored in Communication and Art at Wake Forest and graduated with honors. She got her masters in journalism from Northwestern which is one of the best and most prestigious programs in the world, and went on the get her Ph.D. in mass communications from UNC Chapel Hill. Color me impressed.

I would also add that our new provost was the Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Texas at Austin

If Hartzell wants her, she must be great?

I’m sure there’s a rationale for this but the provost role typically means an academic, research focused person. This profile is certainly different.
