Ullmann named Executive Deputy Athletic Director
DALLAS (SMU) - Brian Ullmann has been named Executive Deputy Athletic Director for SMU Athletics by Director of Athletics Damon Evans on Wednesday. In this role, Ullmann will be responsible for the strategy and administration of marketing, communications, development, institutional partnerships, ticket operations, premium seating and hospitality. Additionally, he will assist the Director of Athletics with the day-to-day management of the department.
Ullmann joins the Mustangs after serving as Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Strategy Officer at Maryland since 2019. In that role, he was responsible for all external units, including marketing, communications, sponsorships, video, strategic partnerships and ticket operations. Ullmann also managed the creation of the One Maryland Collective and a new revenue-sharing management department, which he oversaw.
From 2020-2024, he simultaneously served as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the University, where he managed a 50+ unit including communications, marketing, creative services, editorial (including Terp, the alumni magazine), and web services. It was a role he also held from 2010-2017.
Outside of Maryland, Ullmann has also worked as the Director of Marketing for the Washington, DC Convention and Tourism Corporation, Director of Marketing and Development for Special Olympics DC (where he also served as a volunteer basketball coach), and as Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Rare, a global conservation organization.
