I was told they had a really good hamburger called, "The Awful Awful". Stands for Awful big, Awful good. It was one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. This place is a dump, a hole in the wall and has been around for many decades. Appearantly the Awful, Awful, is very famous in that part of the world and has been featured on the Food Channel, Travel Channel, etc several times. If you are in Reno for whatever reason I would suggest you swing by the "Little Nugget Diner" and try one.
Two Thumbs up for the Awful, Awful!!!!
Yes! The Awful Awful! I ate that in Reno several times. Discovered it by pure chance. I'm sure it took a few weeks or months off my life span!
Have been to the little Nugget or one of the other nugget casinos?
It's an effing fast food chain. Please see my rant about Twisted Root if you want to revisit my thoughts on trendy, exciteable little places. And yes, I've had them in Vegas and LA.

I don't give TR a pass on food. Dry large buns tops the list of no.

I believe it was the little nugget - small place down the strip from the Silver Legacy, with the greesy spoon type grill in the back.
That is it. A classic hamburger joint. I am taking my kids up to Tahoe next week for a little Spring Break skiing and I will introduce them to the Awful Awful..

Yesterday. You should go by there now.

An old friend is in town this week on business. Called me and said he was having a happy hour at a restaurant near his hotel, and suggested dinner afterward.
Even if the alternative is starving to death, do not ever eat at a new (and soon-to-be-closed) dump on Lemmon called "Honey Shack." The place presents itself as a wannabe Hooters, I guess ... bar food, waitresses in tanktops and shorts, etc.
The burger was ... terrible. Start with a bun that was about 10 times the size of the burger itself, and apparently was dipped in some kind of grease. I realize a lot of places put some sort of oil or something in the bun, but this place lathered up the outside, to the point that it required toweling off of the hands between bites. The burger itself was greasy (but somehow not in a good way) and about as flavorful as bark. Don't ask them to change up the toppings - they'll mess it up, in part because they don't write down any orders.
To top it off, the fries ... imagine the saltiest fries you have ever had, and then hold the fries themselves. These things must have been soaked for hours (or maybe years) in concentrated salt water. They were completely inedible.
But as bad as the food was, at least it's extremely overpriced ($11 for a bacon cheeseburger?), the place was virtually empty on a Thursday night, has all the excitement of your local morgue and features waitresses who clearly feel they have better things to do than get your order right or re-fill your drink.
Fear not: the place should be out of business soon.
