How was SMU AD so off?

That is like announcing the Mavs parade before the Finals is over.

It is hard to imagine that we didn't have a hint we'd be left out. Just embarassing all the way around no matter how you look at it. Such a letdown.

Everyone but the most jaded and cynical thought we were a lock. That includes not just SMU fans but every single national basketball writer and expert out there. Sure we might lose to UH, but no way they'd use that to deny us. No way. Not with our body of work.

The unthinkable happened. So rather than rolling over, another unthinkable is occurring right this very moment. Righteous indignation is our response. And an unquenchable fire to dig deep and draw strength from the event.

This truly has been an epic year in the life of this school. Cannot wait for Wednesday.

Wrong… I am not jaded or cynical, but I know what the NCAA does. I thought we should have been a lock, but that does not mean I thought that we were a lock.

Then congrats for your prescience. You were in a very small minority.

Yes, your are 100% correct. I was so glad I was there. I would have rather been there than anywhere else. The school did a magnificent job in getting the selection watch together. I am glad that they had the initiative to do it. A lot of work and preparation went into getting it together and and I am very appreciative. SMU has no control over the insanity that occurred during the selection process. A standing ovation for the team and the coaches was a good thing to be able to do.

I was glad we went too. I think CBS really wanted a dog and pony show and it backfired on them as well.

1) We took a chance on hiring Larry Brown. That one paid off.

2) We took a chance on putting nearly $50M into our basketball arena. That horse came in.

3) We took a chance when we were in the top-25 in most polls and considered by ESPN to be a 'lock' (not that I'll ever take that seriously again) to be in the tourney and tried to bring everybody in to share in a MASSIVE celebration. That one just didn't pay off.

We've taken some chances in the past few years, some came in, some didn't. Everybody who can show up to the NIT and root your team on. I can't, so I'll make another small donation to my school.

Some of you are just amazing...only two or three weeks ago, people came on here begging for a watch party at Moody. Then, when it was announced that we were going to do so, everyone applauded the decision. And some of you now criticize, of all people, the SID for staging the event at CBS's request?

We shoot our wounded and stragglers on this board.

To be fair, we were only one slot away... not a huge miss.

I'm glad there was an event, despite the result.

To be really fair. I think even Brown was surprised how well this team did. So, in scheduling OOC, he was trying to give them some confidence this year. We also had some long term deals and back halves of home and home deals like AR-PB, Wyoming and TCU. I don't think people expected A&M to be as putrid as they were. Rhode Island has usually been a middle of the pack team in the A-10, but now the A-10 is a what 8 team bid league? Hofstra has been a decent CAA team, but this year was down. Its was a lot of little things that threw this off kilter. And we were a rimmed three from beating UVA and couldn't hit free throws against UH and USF.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Not to mention Yanick's walk when we were only down 1... that one has bugged me all season. (Correct call and solid UVA defense, but still frustrating.)
